A picture of Sycamore HallExciting new housing and care option for older people in North Yorkshire

A development which offers an exciting new housing and care option for older people in North Yorkshire has been officially opened. Sycamore Hall, an extra care scheme of 42 one and two-bedroomed flats in Bainbridge, North Yorkshire, provides high-quality independent living, with 24-hour care provided to meet residents’ changing needs over time.

The purpose-built scheme, developed in partnership between Housing 21, North Yorkshire County Council, and Richmondshire District Council, replaces High Hall Residential Home and Sycamore Close Sheltered Housing and received both Housing Corporation and Department of Health grants.

As well as enjoying purpose-built accommodation, residents have been provided with an on-site restaurant, hairdressing salon, day centre and therapy room. These facilities are open to all in the surrounding Dales community, providing a range of activities and support networks for older people, and helping enhance links with the local communities.

North Yorkshire County Council has commissioned one apartment to provide short breaks to replace the traditional respite service provided in residential care. This allows older/disabled people or their carers from the Upper Dales to take a break in a comfortable and welcoming environment whilst having the peace of mind that their individualized care plans will cater to all their needs.

Sycamore Hall was officially opened by delighted residents Mrs Wilhelmina Bowden Mrs Dorothy Westwood.
