At the forefront of dementia and mental health services

Research to inform practice

Housing 21 undertakes research to inform practice. We learn from this to develop our services and also share our findings with others to improve services for all.

For example, in 2006 Housing 21 with the University of the West of England and the Housing Corporation published our three-year study on how extra care housing supports older people with dementia. This groundbreaking work captured the views of older people with dementia living in our schemes, assessed their needs and circumstances over time and provided a series of recommendations to inform policy and practice.
