Walstead Court official opening

Walstead Court, an extra care scheme of 26 one and two-bedroomed flats in Crawley, was officially opened last month.

The purpose-built scheme, developed in partnership between Housing 21, West Sussex County Council, and Crawley Borough Council, provides high-quality independent living, with 24-hour care provided to meet residents’ changing needs over time.

Elkin Court

'Top-out' for Elkin Court

Elkin Court, a new extra care scheme being built in Partington, Trafford, has been officially 'topped-out'.

Developed in partnership between Housing 21, and Trafford Council with a £2.2 million social housing grant from the Housing Corporation, Elkin Court is located on a 1.23 acre site that was formerly occupied by a local authority residential care home.

Social well-being in extra care housing

A report examining how social well-being can be promoted in extra care housing has been published this month by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

The report, based on a research study undertaken between Housing 21 and the University of the West of England (UWE), is particularly timely given the increasing importance of well-being as an issue framing policy across health, housing and social care.

Housing 21 involved in major Inquiry into mental health in later life

Housing 21 was involved as a member of the Board of the UK Inquiry, which published its final report on 13 August 07.

The report – the culmination of four years thorough research - concludes that the over 3.5 million older people who experience mental health problems do not have satisfactory services and support and considers the Government’s response to the mental health pandemic to be inadequate.
